Hi, friends and fans that I see or will meet on the convention circuit!
This is my all new convention commission list procedure! This post is kinda long so please read carefully!
I have a limited list of requests for convention commissions I take for each day of the convention I’m appearing at.
The night before each individual day of a con, I will take as many pre-booked spots as I can for that next day of the convention.
To get a spot on that next day’s list, you will need to visit this site’s front page (toddnauck.com) at 8pm (for the time zone that convention is in) for a code word.
Once the code word has posted, send me an email with the following criteria:
A new CODE WORD will be in bold type in an all new post stating the next day’s commission list is OPEN. That CODE WORD goes in the email’s subject heading.
Email your request to me at mail@wildguard.com
In the email’s body, I need:
- Your name.
- Specify if you are an attendee or exhibitor.
(I allow only one exhibitor on my commission list for each day of the convention. The other spots are allotted for attendees. Badges will be checked the following day.) - The type of commission you’re looking for (see options listed below).
- The name of character you would like for that commission.
- At least 3 alternate characters (in case I am not able to fulfill your first character suggestion request).
- Specify if you want your commission on my art board or if you are bringing a sketch cover or sketch book for your commission.
- List which days of the con you will be attending.
(NOTE: You MUST be attending that convention to be on the list for that specific convention weekend. I will not be able to mail any commissions out from or after the convention.) - Since I can take very few half figures each day, you may want to list a head shot alternate choice in case you make the list but I’ve already filled up on half figure commission allotment.
If I reply back, you are on that next day’s list! I will reply with how you can pay for your commission to lock it in. You must check in at my table the next day to secure your spot otherwise it will be offered up to someone else that day on the show floor.
I will either draw your commission on the con floor that next day or finish it in the hotel that next night for pick up the following day (and there is the slight possibility I will draw a commission or commissions the night of accepting requests, time permitting).
YOU MUST BRING YOUR I.D. and CONVENTION BADGE/PASS FOR COMMISSION PICK-UP!
I will specify a time for you to come by my table for you to confirm and pay for your commission. If you have not done so my that time that spot on the list will be offered up to those at my table via dice roll.
Due to the number of emails I may receive, I cannot guarantee I will be able to reply if you do not make the next day’s list. So if you haven’t heard back from me by the following morning, my list for that day has filled.
I will repeat this email process with a new code word each night before the next day of that convention. So if you didn’t get on my list on Thursday night for Friday’s list, there is always Friday night’s code word to get a shot at Saturday’s list and so on.
Remember! Each code word is ONLY for that following day’s list! So the weekend would look kinda like this (depending on length of the specific convention):
- Wednesday night code word email for Thursday’s list
- Thursday night code word email for Friday’s list
- Friday night code word email for Saturday’s list
- Saturday night code word email for Sunday’s list
Here are my current convention commission prices/options!
All commissions are single character!
- Head shot black and white on 7″x10″ (roughly) art board, on your sketch cover: $80
- Head shot color Copic markers on 7″x10″ (roughly) art board, on your sketch cover comic: $130

- Remarque (3”x3” roughly) on your comic book SKETCH cover**, Copic marker full color head: $60
- CGC grading (or other comics grading services) for commissions drawn on sketch covers, add $20 to the commission price.
(NOTE! This does not include the comics grading service’s fee. Check with your comics grading service to see what they charge to grade a sketch cover commission.) - *NOTE: Commission requests that require celebrity or actor likenesses may be declined. No personal or your creator-owned characters, please.
- **NOTE: Most remarques will be done in my hotel room for pick-up the next day.
On the rare chance a day’s list doesn’t fill up or if a person does not check in for their slot, I may still accept commission requests at my table on the show floor.
I know this is a lot of info to take in. It may even seem confusing. But I’ve been wracking my brain to find a new and as fair as possible convention commission list procedure that does not require people to have to get up unreasonably early and/or run to my table to try to get a spot on my list.
I sure hope this works and makes things less stressful for everyone in the long run!
I’ll also have some 9×12 pre-drawn studio commissions and 11×17 original comic art pages for sale at my table as well as limited edition prints and sketchbooks.
Click HERE for more info! And check back here for any possible updates to this info!
I thank EVERYONE for their continued support and understanding.
You all are awesome and I hope you will stop by my table to say “Hi!”
-Todd
As someone who has a poor sense of direction and less than optimal running speed, I think this sounds like a great new plan & I hope that it works out well ^-^!
I like this idea. Makes me life easier. I was wondering how you feel about Jam Pieces btw and would they qualify if said individual paid the full price for it. I will be meeting you at the Long Beach Comic Expo.
I have done jam pieces before. I’d have to see what you want done before I could commit.
If you’re lucky enough to get on my list via email the night before, we can discuss if it possible the next day at the con. I can’t make any promises but I’d be very happy to see the jam piece and discuss.
Just curious…are you taking the emails that come in each night in order they come in to create the list for the next day or are you going to do a “lottery” with the request that come in the night before and make the sketch list that way.
Great question!
When emails come in that night for the next day’s con comm list, I plan to do “first emails in make the list” so long as they meet the criteria listed in my post: Attendee/exhibitor, character choice, half figure/headshot, etc.
This weekend at Long Beach will be my first attempt at this new procedure.
I kinda tried this doing pre-con commissions at NYCC2016. It worked pretty well. So I thought this may be an easier way for fans to get on my daily con comm list without having to get up at 4am to queue up in line at the con doors by 6-7am, with the hopes of maybe getting a shot at my list by racing through the halls to get to my table at 10am. That was getting too crazy.
This procedure should allow people a chance to get on my list from the comfort of their homes/hotel rooms. I can only draw so much art each day so there are a limited number of spots.
I do my best to keep things as fair as possible. At this time, my list via emails will not be a lottery.
Thanks!
What email address should the emails be sent too?
As stated in the myriad of text above (kinda hard to see, huh?), the email address is mail@wildguard.com. 🙂
If I am attending a convention on Saturday only would I be eligible to get a commission if I were to get on the Friday list?
The list that opens on Friday night at 8pm is for the Saturday convention commissions. It is valid for the Saturday only attendees or those there all weekend. But that spot on Friday night is only valid for Saturday.
If someone gets on the list and does not come to pay by the specified time (mentioned in the email reply that night) the next day, their spot is offered up to a person on the con floor, at my table via the chance of a dice roll.
@Todd Nauck
Could I try to get a Friday commission for the list that opens on Thursday? I would just pay and pick up Saturday. If not then I will also try to get on the Saturday commission list.
Unfortunately, at this time, no. For those that get on Friday’;s list must come to my table that day to confirm and pay by a certain time (stated in my reply email). For those that do not confirm and pay the next day by the specified time, their spot is raffled off at my table via a dice roll.
So if you are looking to pay and collect a commission for Saturday, you need to email on Friday night when the code word posts.
Thanks for your understanding! 🙂
I don’t know how to subcribe to a RSS feed will up post the password here on your website if so where exactly thanks
The RSS feed button is the orange square just below Spidey on my front page.
The CODE WORD (wiht all of the commission instructions and prices again) will be an all new post (the first post you’ll see) at 8pm each night starting tomorrow night.
So trying to figure out how to send RSS feeds on my phone Will password also be shown on your website, thanks
The CODE WORD will be in red text on this page. It will be the first new post at 8pm each night. If you are subscribed to the RSS feed, you’ll receive an email notification of the same post.
So tried to click on the RSS feed button, and just see html goobly goop. Am I doing something wrong?
If you’re trying to access the RSS feed from a mobile device, that may be the problem. We are trying to correct the site to work on all mobile devices. Try accessing the RSS feed from a laptop or PC. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
Hi todd, Im flying over from australia and would love to add you to my book but this confuses me a little as it’s the first time i tried to get something in this fashion.
Would i have to check the site the night before the convention to find a code word to attempt to get a slot and if i don’t get it i gotta try it the night before?
For my con weekend commissions, I will post a code word in an all new post on this site at 8pm the night before the following day of the con.
That code word will be in the title of the post as well as red bold letters in the body of the post.
That code word goes in the subject heading of your email to mail@wildguard.com. The body of the email will require a list of bullet point info that will be lined out in the body of the code word post.
The night’s code word is only good for the next day;s con commission list. I repeat the process each night for the following day’s list throughout the con weekend.
If you receive a reply by 9am the next morning, that means you made the list. If you do not receive a reply by 9am the next day, it means my list filled up for that day. But you can try again that night for the next day’s list.
I do not take any lists the day of the con at my table. Only via this website/email process.
My lists fill up fast! So you’ll wanna be quick with the email!
I wish you safe travels and good luck. Hope it works out that I can draw a commission for you! See you in San Diego!
